By

Joy Brooks

Raised from infancy to be ignorant of his birthright and duty, Rayden is caught unawares when he is eventually forced into his role as king of seventeenth century Ruar.

Rayden intends to refuse that unwelcome responsibility, but his most beloved and loyal companion betrays him by making an alliance with Rayden’s father.

Others aim to see destiny fulfilled—no matter the cost to the comfort, dignity, or liberty to the King’s Heir.

Author Bio: I am a southern lady in love with the mystery and adventure associated with medieval warriors and royalty. I fill my spare time with reading, writing, cross-stitching, and playing with my nine cats. I enjoy the quiet life in a quaint, historic Georgia town.

I began writing in 2009. It had been a passion of mine since I was in my teens. I sent my first book submission to a publisher when I was in my early twenties. It was turned down but actually, it was a very nice rejection letter. If I had looked at it objectively, I would have seen that I did have a future in writing. I figured maybe writing wasn’t for me but my desire to write never left me. Finally one April morning in 2009, I decided to follow my dream. I haven’t stop writing and I never will.

I am involved with several writing groups, eTreasures publishing, Writers and Readers, Book Daily, Coffee Time, and many others. I believe associating with authors is rewarding. It gives a writer valuable insights into the world of authors and publishing.

eTreasures Twelve Days Blog #4: Kittens and the Christmas Tree

Author Joy Brooks shares a 'meowy' Christmas with this sweet event.

I live with eight cats. My two kittens are quite adventerous. My Christmas tree is situatated between double windows in my living room. I walked into the room one morning and found, to my suprise, the kittens clinging to the center of the tree. They turned to me with a calm stare, but didn't drop from the tree. Misty and Tia clung to the tree for some time. They had a lot of fun moving from branch to branch. At times all I could see was their white underbellies. I couldn't fathom how they didn't turn it over. When they finally got down, they started to systimatically knock off all the ornaments. I got a box and I'm putting all the dislodged ornaments in it. I want to see how many I have left on the tree by Chistmas.

Have you ever had cats in your Christmas tree?

Joy has two fantasy novels, Fourth Son and Sword of Virtue, as well as a sweet novella, Coming Home, published with eTreasures.
She has a Christmas Novella being released this week:
A Christmas Wish? Katie Holston, raised in foster homes, wants nothing more than a family to call her own. She meets the man of her dreams in Ian Stokely. Being his five year old son’s teacher, she is in a position to make her dreams come true. Kyle Stokely confides in Katie his greatest wish for Christmas. He wants his widowed father to be happy again. Ian Stokely has a different view than Katie Holston and his son, Kyle. He wishes to be left alone. Can Katie and Kyle convince Ian to live life fully again?

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome!

eTP: What drew you to writing?

JB: I think more than anything, my love of reading. At an early age, I dreamed of putting my thoughts down on paper. I believe all writers have an inborn desire to expess their ideas. I want to share my stories, but more important to me, is for people to enjoy reading my work.

eTP: Why Historicals? And what other genres do you write?

JB: I love Hitoricals! All through school, my favorite subject was history, especially the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. My love of royalty, and the age of chivalry, made my choice of genres easy. I write Fiction, Gothic, Historical Romance, and Medieval Period works.

eTP:  If you could pick one genre you've never written but would love to what would it be and why?

JB: Thats easy, Sci-Fi. I may one day give this a try. I have a lot of ideas about this. A space ship, with aliens, or possibly, a time traveler. This would take me into a new, exciting era. The future is as intriging as the past.

eTP: How long have you been writing?

JB: Full time, three years now. I did dabble a few years ago, but when my first submission was declined, I decided maybe writing wasn't for me after all. One morning three years ago, I woke up and made a decision to live my dream. I had a story in my head I desperately wanted to put on paper. I haven't looked back.

eTP: If someone who is just looking to get published were to approach you what would you tell them is the most important thing for them to do?

JB: I would tell them to do some research. There are many sites out there with wonderful information on how to write, where to go to find a publisher, what the market is like, and what to look for in a contract. Getting advice from other authors is also imperative. Some of the best advice I received was to look into the world of ebooks. It is a fast growing market.

eTP: Thank you so very much for stopping by, Joy. Its been great to have you and to get a chance to read this amazing story. Its such a great read and a lot of fun to.

JB: Thank you, eTreasures its been my pleasure. I would like to take a moment to say thank you to my family and friends. They have been such a support to me. Having the backing of those you love is inspiring. I also want to thank my publisher, editor, cover designer, and all those who have helped get my books out there to the public. I would like to giveaway a ebook copy of Fourth Son. I hope the person who receives it, enjoys the read. For those who would like to contact me, I would love to hear from you. Visit my site at Joy Brooks and send me an email.
